Punjab's Crusade Against Child Marriage: Social Reforms in Action

In a proactive stride against the prevalent issue of child marriage, Punjab Social Security Minister Baljit Kaur announced on Monday that 58 such marriages have been thwarted in the last 15 months. The minister credited effective departmental actions and widespread awareness for this significant achievement.

Focusing on the period from January 2024 to March 2025, 42 cases were prevented within a year, followed by 16 more in early 2025. Minister Kaur emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to eliminating this malpractice, supported by the state's comprehensive action plan and the functional 24/7 Child Helpline 1098.

Acknowledging the societal implications, Kaur called for community involvement in the awareness campaigns soon to be rolled out across the state. She appealed to teachers, healthcare workers, and community leaders to collaborate with the government, ensuring a progressive Punjab free from the clutches of child marriage.
