In Balochistan, a Pakistani court has placed a woman under police remand following her alleged involvement in the honour killing of her daughter and another individual. The woman, Gul Jan Bibi, was detained after a video circulated online showing her rationalizing the murders based on Baloch tribal traditions.
The killings occurred near Quetta in the Sanjidi Degari area. The video, which went viral, shows Gul holding the Holy Quran, justifying the act as aligning with age-old customs, rather than being a crime.
According to local police, a tribal leader and several others were also arrested in connection with the case, which spotlights the persistence of honour killings despite being condemned by human rights organizations. The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan reported at least 405 such cases in the previous year alone.
