Significance of the Credential Ceremony
The presentation of credentials is a vital diplomatic custom that marks the official beginning of an envoy’s tenure in the host country. By accepting the credentials, the President of India formally acknowledges the authority of the foreign representatives to speak and act on behalf of their respective governments in India.
President Droupadi Murmu, while welcoming the envoys, emphasized India’s commitment to building robust bilateral relations based on mutual respect, cooperation, and shared global objectives. She expressed confidence that their tenures would not only strengthen political and economic ties but also open new avenues for cultural exchange and people-to-people connections.
Spotlight on Bilateral Relations
India–Dominican Republic Relations
India and the Dominican Republic share growing ties in trade, health, education, and IT. The new ambassador, Mr. Francisco Manuel Compres Hernandez, is expected to further bolster cooperation, especially in renewable energy and pharmaceuticals—two sectors of strong mutual interest. India had opened its embassy in Santo Domingo in 2022, reflecting deepening engagement in Latin America and the Caribbean.
India–Timor-Leste Engagement
As one of Asia’s youngest democracies, Timor-Leste has steadily sought to diversify its partnerships. Ambassador Karlito Nunes’ appointment comes at a time when both nations are exploring avenues in capacity-building, education, and energy security. India supports Timor-Leste’s aspirations for ASEAN membership and sustainable development through South-South cooperation.
India–Sri Lanka Ties: A Historic Relationship
Ms. Pradeepa Mahishini Colonne assumes the role of High Commissioner during a dynamic phase of India–Sri Lanka relations. Shared cultural heritage, maritime cooperation, and ongoing development assistance underline the strategic importance of the bilateral partnership. With strong people-to-people bonds and high-level visits, her tenure is poised to build on decades of close collaboration.
India–Gabon Strategic Dialogue
High Commissioner Mr. Guy Rodrigue Dikayi will play a key role in steering India–Gabon relations, especially after Gabon became a member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA) in 2021. The two countries have also seen cooperation in mining, healthcare, and education. India continues to engage with African partners under its broader vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas” in foreign policy.
A Platform for Multilateral Cooperation
President Murmu highlighted India’s active engagement in multilateral platforms such as the G20, BRICS, ISA, and the United Nations, inviting all four countries to collaborate on global challenges like climate change, digital transformation, food security, and inclusive economic growth.
The President conveyed her best wishes to the envoys for their tenure in India and reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting their missions in all possible ways.
Cultural Diplomacy and Future Outlook
India’s cultural diplomacy continues to be a cornerstone of its global engagement. The new envoys are expected to participate in programs hosted by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), explore inter-university collaborations, and facilitate business exchanges through respective bilateral chambers of commerce.
With the acceptance of credentials, the diplomatic pathways are now officially open for these representatives to engage across multiple sectors, from trade and defense to environment and innovation.
The credential ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on July 29, 2025, reaffirmed India’s role as a global partner committed to dialogue, cooperation, and mutual growth. As the new envoys take charge, their presence signals a deepening of India’s ties with Latin America, Southeast Asia, South Asia, and Africa—regions central to India’s evolving foreign policy strategy.
