Debate in Rajya Sabha: Extending President's Rule in Manipur

The Rajya Sabha is set for a crucial debate on extending President's Rule in Manipur by six months, starting August 13. The decision comes after a session by the Business Advisory Committee, led by Deputy Chairman Harivansh.

The discussion, which is scheduled for this week, follows a proposal by Amit Shah, the Minister of Home Affairs. He seeks approval to maintain the proclamation issued on February 13, 2025, amid unsuccessful attempts by the BJP to form a government in the embattled state.

This move follows the ongoing violence since May 2023, which has resulted in over 260 deaths and numerous displacements due to clashes between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. Peace attempts include campaigns from local MLAs.
