China and U.S. Aim for Diplomatic Progress Post-Trade Talks

Following high-level trade talks in Sweden, China is urging the U.S. to engage in dialogue to foster sustainable bilateral ties. Both nations seek to extend their 90-day tariff truce amidst constructive discussions to mitigate their ongoing trade war, as emphasized by China’s foreign ministry.

In the aftermath of high-level trade talks that took place in Sweden, China has expressed its hope for the United States to collaborate in promoting sustainable development of bilateral ties. The announcement was made on Wednesday by a spokesperson from the Chinese foreign ministry.

Guo Jiakun, the ministry spokesperson, emphasized the need for both countries to 'enhance consensus' and 'reduce misunderstanding' during his regular press briefing. He refrained from providing further details about the Stockholm talks that concluded on Tuesday.

The discussions, described as constructive by both parties, also saw U.S. and Chinese officials agreeing to pursue an extension of their 90-day tariff truce. This move is part of efforts to defuse the ongoing trade war between the world’s two largest economies.
