Tragic End: Delhi Student Falls Victim to Online Scam

A 19-year-old Delhi University student named Mahesh Rana committed suicide after losing Rs 94,000 in an online scam while attempting to purchase a mobile phone. His disappearance and later identification near Begumpur highlighted the severe impact of cyber fraud, with the case currently under investigation by the police.

A tragic incident unfolded in Delhi when a 19-year-old student of Delhi University, Mahesh Rana, allegedly took his own life after a devastating online scam. Rana lost Rs 94,000 while attempting to buy a mobile phone, leading to severe personal and familial consequences.

Rana, a second-year B.Com (Honours) student at DU's School of Open Learning, had transferred money to a fraudster in multiple transactions. The grim reality set in when he failed to receive the phone and subsequently went missing. His body was discovered near the Begumpur water treatment plant on July 16.

The police were alerted to his disappearance by his mother, who received a message from Rana confessing the cyber fraud loss. As the police continue their investigation, the case underscores the dire need for vigilance against online scams and the severe emotional toll they can take on individuals.
