In a tragic development, Bangladesh's former Army chief, Lieutenant General (retired) M Harun-Ar-Rashid, was reported dead on Monday in a room at the Chittagong Club.

Harun, 77, had made the journey from Dhaka to Chittagong on Sunday to participate in a court hearing, as reported by police to the Dhaka Tribune. Harun was notably involved with the Destiny Group, where he served as president, and was due in court regarding financial irregularities.

The former Army chief's absence at the scheduled court time raised alarms, and subsequent checks led to the discovery of his body in his room. While the exact cause of death remains officially undetermined, preliminary suspicions point towards a potential brain haemorrhage. His remains have been transferred to the Combined Military Hospital in Chittagong for further examination.
