Debate Over Judiciary Impartiality: Former BJP Spokesperson's Judicial Nomination Sparks Controversy

NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar voiced strong objections to the recommendation by the Supreme Court collegium, which proposed Aarti Sathe, a former BJP spokesperson, for a High Court judge position. Pawar warned that this could compromise judicial impartiality.

He questioned if citizens could expect fair rulings when governmental involvement is at stake, given Sathe's past political affiliations. Pawar urged the collegium to withdraw its recommendation, highlighting that Sathe's judicial appointment process began during her political tenure.

However, the BJP clarified that Sathe cut ties with the party two years ago. Critics argue past political associations aren't sufficient grounds for disqualification, citing Congress MPs' judicial transitions as precedent.
