The Supreme Court's recent directive has set in motion strategic efforts to address Delhi's stray dog crisis. Over 26,000 dog bite incidents have been reported this year, prompting the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to assure the implementation of sheltering solutions.

To facilitate this transition, the MCD will introduce a dedicated helpline for residents to report stray dog sightings. MCD Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma cited land allocation as a hurdle for shelter construction across all zones, a process expected to be time-consuming.

The ongoing efforts include collaboration with NGOs for sterilization programs and the utilization of currently operational sterilization centers. As the MCD works towards the court's mandate, the welfare of both residents and animals remains a priority.
