The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has requested a transparent investigation into a significant Rs 16 crore bank fraud, appealing to Chief Minister Manik Saha for action.
The fraudulent activity, involving cloned cheques, has seen this amount siphoned from the Agartala Municipal Corporation's account since August. The state government has formed a Special Investigating Team, led by an Additional Superintendent of Police, to oversee the investigation. Thus far, one cashier from the implicated bank branch has been detained.
TPCC president Asish Kumar Saha highlighted that the bank had verified signatures before authorizing the transfer. The illicit funds were eventually funneled into accounts belonging to individuals residing in Delhi and Nagpur, amplifying calls for a comprehensive inquiry.
