International Flotilla Activists Allege Mistreatment by Israeli Forces
Activists from Switzerland, Spain, and Sweden claim they faced inhumane conditions while detained by Israeli forces after attempting to deliver aid to Gaza. Allegations include physical abuse, deprivation of basic needs, and denial of consular assistance. Israeli officials deny these claims, maintaining that detainee rights were respected.
International activists from a flotilla attempting to deliver aid to Gaza allege they were mistreated by Israeli forces during detention. The group, including Swiss, Spanish, and Swedish members, reported experiencing physical abuse, lack of necessities, and being denied consular support, claims which Israeli authorities strongly refute.
Spanish lawyer Rafael Borrego described the alleged mistreatment upon his return to Spain, while prominent activist Greta Thunberg was allegedly forced to wear an Israeli flag. Israeli officials have dismissed these accusations as 'complete lies,' asserting that all detainees were provided food, water, and legal rights.
Amidst these allegations, diplomats from various countries are working to ensure the welfare of detainees, with some activists already released. Former Barcelona Mayor Ada Calau highlighted the issue's significance by comparing the activists' experiences with the daily struggles of Palestinians.
