An assistant police inspector and a constable found themselves on the wrong side of the law in Kalyan, following their arrest by Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials. The pair allegedly assured the father of a rape case accused they would assist in securing bail for his son.
The ACB revealed that assistant inspector Tukaram Joshi, 57, from Khadakpada police station, demanded a bribe of Rs 3 lakh from the father of the accused. Acting on the father's complaint, the ACB laid a trap to capture the corrupt officials.
During the sting operation, the complainant handed over Rs 1.25 lakh to police constable Vijay Kale, 38. The ACB team apprehended Kale in his vehicle, and Joshi was subsequently arrested at the police station. Both were remanded in police custody for two days, said inspector Santosh Navalgi.
