An elderly Dalit man faced humiliation after allegedly being forced to lick the ground near a temple on Lucknow's outskirts during Diwali. The alleged incident occurred around 7 pm on Monday, sparking political outrage over caste discrimination.
The man's grandson, Mukesh Kumar, stated that his grandfather, Rampal Rawat, suffers from breathing difficulties and may have urinated accidentally while coughing. The accused, identified as Swami Kant, has been arrested.
Opposition parties in Uttar Pradesh criticized the BJP government over the incident, labeling it an 'anti-Dalit' act. Police have registered a case against Kant, but noted that an investigation is ongoing to determine the exact nature of the crime.
