A charge sheet has been filed against Congress MLA I C Balakrishnan and three other party leaders in the alleged suicide case of District Congress Committee treasurer N M Vijayan and his son in Sultan Bathery.
The tragic incident, which occurred in December 2024, is believed to have been fueled by the failure of Balakrishnan and others to provide jobs they allegedly promised in return for money collected from several individuals for cooperative bank positions. Vijayan's letter accusing Balakrishnan and others came to light before the incident.
All four accused, including former DCC president N D Appachan and Congress leaders K K Gopinathan and P V Balachandran, previously secured anticipatory bail. Meanwhile, Balakrishnan faces separate accusations from the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau related to job arrangement irregularities at a local bank.
