A 39-year-old Indian-origin man has been charged for illegally lighting fireworks in Singapore during Diwali celebrations, contravening the city's ban on fireworks, according to local media reports.
Dilip Kumar, the accused, allegedly ignited fireworks at an open field on Carlisle Road, an act deemed illegal under Singapore's Guns, Explosives and Weapons Control Act 2021, reported Channel News Asia.
The incident came to light after a video circulating online showed the fireworks display, prompting a police investigation. Kumar, appearing in court via video link, is scheduled for his next court date on November 20. He faces a possible five-year jail term and a fine up to SGD 100,000 for the unauthorized use of explosives.
