This initiative comes in response to statistics indicating a 19% rise in anti-Muslim hate crimes as of March 2025, with 44% of all religious hate crimes targeting Muslims.

The announcement follows an arson attack on Peacehaven Mosque in East Sussex, which underscored the urgent need for improved security. The additional funding builds on £29.4 million already allocated for the current year to safeguard mosques and Muslim faith schools. Community leaders have welcomed this initiative, emphasizing that it will provide the much-needed reassurance and protection for Muslim communities.
