The Gauteng Department of Social Development has issued a reminder to all non-profit organisations (NPOs) to submit their funding applications for the 2026/27 financial year before the final deadline of Thursday, 30 October 2025. The extension, announced by MEC for Social Development, Faith Mazibuko, offers NPOs an additional two weeks beyond the original closing date of 15 October to finalise and submit their proposals.
Extension Aimed at Ensuring Fair Participation
According to MEC Mazibuko, the decision to extend the application period was driven by a desire to provide all NPOs — particularly smaller and community-based organisations — with sufficient time to complete the necessary documentation and meet compliance requirements.
“We extended the application period to 30 October to give all NPOs a fair chance to complete their submissions. This is the final opportunity, and we urge organisations to respect the deadline. Late applications will unfortunately not be considered,” Mazibuko stated.
The department emphasised that no further extensions will be granted and that organisations failing to apply before the deadline risk disqualification from funding consideration.
The Role of NPOs in Community Development
MEC Mazibuko expressed deep appreciation for the vital role that NPOs play in supporting vulnerable individuals and communities across Gauteng. These organisations are essential partners in delivering services related to child welfare, youth development, gender-based violence prevention, disability support, poverty alleviation, and care for the elderly.
“By working together, we can ensure that services reach those most in need across our province,” the MEC said. “NPOs are the backbone of social development in our communities, and their partnerships with government help to extend the reach of critical social programmes.”
Application and Submission Process
The department reminded organisations to submit their funding proposals through approved channels, including the dedicated email address: NPOApplications.Socdev@gauteng.gov.za. Applicants are advised to ensure that all required supporting documents are attached as per the 2026/27 Call for Proposals, which outlines eligibility criteria, funding categories, and compliance requirements.
Key documentation includes:
-
Proof of NPO registration and compliance status.
-
Audited financial statements.
-
Governance and management structure details.
-
Programme implementation plans and beneficiary profiles.
-
Evidence of previous impact or service delivery.
Submissions that are incomplete, lack supporting information, or fail to meet the required standards will not be processed.
Strengthening Accountability and Transparency
The Department of Social Development has reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and equitable distribution of funding. All applications will undergo a strict adjudication process, assessing financial management, programme relevance, community impact, and alignment with the department’s strategic priorities.
Over the years, Gauteng has channelled substantial financial resources into supporting NPOs working in social service delivery. However, Mazibuko emphasised the need for compliance and accountability, ensuring that every funded organisation demonstrates measurable results and effective use of public funds.
Supporting the NPO Sector for a Resilient Future
The funding process forms part of the provincial government’s broader mission to build a sustainable, inclusive, and responsive social service sector. The department continues to work with NPOs to strengthen institutional capacity, improve monitoring systems, and foster collaboration across districts.
“Government cannot achieve its social development goals alone. It is through strong partnerships with NPOs that we can transform lives and uplift communities,” said Mazibuko.
The department urged all applicants to submit early to avoid last-minute technical challenges and to ensure their submissions are successfully received and acknowledged before the closing date.
For additional guidance, organisations can contact their regional social development offices or visit the Gauteng Department of Social Development’s website for updated information on the funding process and compliance requirements.
