The Communist Party of India (CPI) has voiced strong opposition to the detention of 44 workers from Jammu and Kashmir at New Tinsukia Railway Station in Assam. It alleged that such incidents of profiling and harassment have become a frequent occurrence in BJP-governed states.
The CPI released a statement calling on Union Home Minister Amit Shah to intervene immediately to safeguard the safety, dignity, and Constitutional rights of Kashmiris residing and working throughout India. Despite police confirmation that the detained individuals had valid identities, they were still held based on appearance and suspicion.
The party attributed these actions to a troubling trend of polarization, with Kashmiris increasingly portrayed as suspicious. Emphasizing repeated claims by the Modi government of reducing the divide between Delhi and Kashmir, the CPI questioned the sincerity of these assertions amid ongoing harassment of Kashmiri people.
