The Gauhati High Court has granted bail to Dr. Sangeeta Dutta, who was arrested more than two years ago alongside her husband, both accused of assaulting two children in a case involving alleged sexual abuse. The decision came 20 days after her husband's release by a co-ordinate bench.
Justice Anjan Moni Kalita addressed concerns over prolonged incarceration and potential delays in trial progress, stating that a valid case for her release was presented by her counsel. The court also criticized procedural lapses during her arrest and pointed to similar judicial precedents.
Dr. Dutta's bail is conditioned upon a bond of Rs 1,00,000 and two local sureties, alongside surrendering essential identification documents. These measures aim to ensure compliance with trial proceedings, minimizing the risk of any activity that could obstruct the case's development.
