Echoes of Chibok: The Latest School Abduction Crisis in Nigeria
A fresh wave of fear grips Nigeria as 25 girls are abducted from a school in Kebbi, highlighting the relentless insecurity plaguing the nation. The incident mirrors the infamous 2014 Chibok kidnapping and intensifies international scrutiny, especially with U.S. pressures over religious persecution.
Nigerian security forces are intensifying efforts to locate 25 girls abducted by gunmen from a boarding school in Kebbi, amidst an unyielding insecurity crisis. Armed men targeted the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, exchanging gunfire with police before successfully abducting the students early Monday.
Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Nigeria's Chief of Army Staff, urged troops to act decisively, emphasizing that success was obligatory. The incident has drawn significant attention, reminiscent of the 2014 Chibok abductions which incited global outrage. Many of the Chibok schoolgirls remain unaccounted for, years after the infamous attack.
The current kidnapping also places Nigeria under heightened international scrutiny, particularly from the U.S. President Donald Trump, due to ongoing Christian persecution allegations by Islamist groups like ISWAP and Boko Haram. As violence continues, families anxiously await news of their missing children.
