The Indian Coast Guard has successfully intercepted three Bangladeshi fishing vessels totalling 79 crew members, accused of illegal fishing activities within India's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). This operation took place during routine surveillance in the Bay of Bengal, leading to legal action against the foreign fishermen.
According to Coast Guard officials, the vessels were caught on November 15 and 25, operating unlawfully in violation of the Maritime Zones of India (Regulation of Fishing by Foreign Vessels) Act, 1981. The fishermen lacked valid permits, and their captures confirmed illegal activities.
The detained fishermen and their equipment have been handed over to the Marine Police in Fraserganj, West Bengal. The operation exemplifies the effective cooperation between state police and the Coast Guard, reiterating the latter's resolution to protect India's maritime integrity.
