A 26-year-old woman has become the latest victim of an online task fraud, losing Rs 7 lakh in the process, according to the Ghatkopar police. The victim was led to believe she was undertaking a legitimate part-time job, only to be drawn into a sophisticated scam.

The scam began when the woman discovered an advertisement for a part-time daycare job on social media platforms. Once she clicked the link, fraudsters contacted her via WhatsApp and later included her in a Telegram group, presenting her with online tasks. After completing the initial task, she received what appeared to be payment receipts.

Despite receiving small payments, the fraudsters demanded Rs 1,78,000 to process further amounts. To meet these demands, the woman mortgaged her family's jewelry. The case came to light when the fraudsters ceased all communication, prompting the woman to report the incident to the police, who have filed a First Information Report (FIR) under charges of cheating and launched an investigation.
