In a significant breakthrough, the Delhi Police have dismantled a fake call centre in Patel Nagar that allegedly targeted vehicle owners with expiring insurance policies. Posing as representatives of legitimate insurance companies, telecallers persuaded individuals to renew their policies, but provided fake documents instead.
The police raid resulted in the arrest of Khemchand, the alleged mastermind behind the operation. Authorities recovered Rs 10 lakh in cash, along with 11 mobile phones, two laptops, and forged documents used in the scam. Eleven women telecallers, hired by Khemchand, were also found at the scene.
According to police, the call centre procured vehicle owner details from an online database, enabling them to contact potential victims. The suspect used fake stamps to create counterfeit policy documents, which were then distributed via messaging apps or cash-on-delivery. Financial transactions were carefully monitored to avoid detection.
An investigation is underway to track additional culprits who may be linked to the scam, highlighting the need for vigilance as enforcement agencies continue their efforts to combat fraudulent activities.
