The Andhra Pradesh government has extended the suspension of senior IPS officer N Sanjay for another six months, as he remains in judicial custody on corruption charges. This decision, announced by Chief Secretary K Vijayanand, pushes his suspension to May 26, 2026.
Sanjay faces allegations of misappropriating public funds related to the AGNI NoC web portal and police training programs for SCs and STs under the Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989. Serving previously as the director general of disaster response and additional director general in CID, his alleged activities have drawn significant scrutiny.
The Anti-Corruption Bureau review committee, after evaluating evidence and pending witness testimonies, necessitated this extension. Reports crucial to the investigation await completion, with Sanjay in custody since August 26. Rules dictate suspension not exceed two years, yet extensions are viable with central oversight.
