TMC Lok Sabha leader Abhishek Banerjee has responded strongly to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's accusation that the opposition has turned Parliament into a 'drama' stage. He emphasized that demanding accountability cannot be dismissed and called for a formal debate on governance issues, particularly the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
Banerjee's comments followed the Prime Minister's statement outside Parliament, where Modi suggested the House was for delivery, not drama, and accused the opposition of warming up for electoral battles. Banerjee sharply countered, highlighting alleged procedural lapses in the SIR exercise that reportedly resulted in deaths.
Criticizing the Election Commission's handling of the revision process, Banerjee accused the ruling BJP of shirking accountability across various matters, including demonetisation and national security. He reiterated that the opposition would persist in demanding government accountability both inside and outside Parliament.
