The Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) has unveiled a new timetable for elections in 24 municipal councils and nagar panchayats, affecting 154 ward seats. The adjustment follows recent court rulings on appeals against returning officers' decisions, which were announced after November 23.
Now slated for December 20, these elections have been postponed from their initial date due to legal appeals. The SEC had initially announced voting for 246 municipal councils and 42 nagar panchayats on November 4, but delays in judicial decisions necessitated changes. The SEC clarified that president and member elections must coincide, thus requiring a complete date revision for affected councils.
The commission stated that nominations could be withdrawn until 3 pm on December 10, with symbol allocation and final candidate lists published on December 11. Voting will occur from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm on December 20, and counting will begin at 10 am on December 21. Elections in other regions will proceed as originally scheduled on December 2.
