A group of students at Aligarh Muslim University was dismissed by authorities when they gathered to discuss the Supreme Court's 2019 Babri Masjid case verdict.
The event, titled 'Reading the Babri Verdict,' was organized by the Students' Collective to coincide with the 33rd anniversary of the mosque's demolition. Organizers labeled the effort an academic exercise but claimed their application for event approval was inexplicably denied.
University authorities disputed these allegations, with Proctor Prof Mohammad Wasim stating that permission was neither sought nor granted. He noted that a call for participation shared on social media received a tepid response, and officials ensured the campus remained orderly.
