The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) committee will soon release its second working paper examining the copyrightability of AI-generated content. Expected within two months, the paper will delve into issues of authorship and transformative nature of AI creations.
The committee's first paper, released last December, recommended a mandatory blanket licence allowing AI developers to utilize all legally accessed copyrighted works. This approach came with a caveat: statutory remuneration rights for copyright holders to ensure they benefit alongside advances in AI technology.
Tasked with identifying issues and proposing changes to existing copyright laws, the committee includes legal experts and industry leaders. Its recommendations emphasize balancing protection of human-created works while fostering AI advancements.
