In a recent decision, a Delhi court has allowed former JNU student Umar Khalid interim bail from December 16 to 29, permitting him to attend his sister's wedding. Khalid is an accused in the 2020 Delhi riots case, and this relief marks another temporary break from custody granted by the court.

Additional Sessions Judge Sameer Bajpai specified conditions for Khalid's release, requiring him to furnish a personal bond of Rs 20,000 alongside two sureties. The court emphasized restrictions on Khalid's activities, including a ban on social media usage and limiting his interactions to family and wedding attendees.

Khalid is mandated to remain at his residence or at wedding venues, avoid contact with any witnesses, and provide his mobile number to the investigating officer. He must surrender to prison authorities by the evening of December 29. The court has previously granted him similar bail in 2022 and for other family events.
