The Bihar government has appealed to the central government to expedite the release of Rs 7,748.49 crore pending under critical rural development schemes. The funds are essential for the successful implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
During a meeting in New Delhi, Bihar's Rural Development Minister Sharwan Kumar requested Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to release the second part of the first instalment and the entire second instalment for PMAY-G, amounting to Rs 4,491 crore. These funds are vital for constructing permanent housing for the rural poor.
Additionally, Rs 3,257.49 crore is required for clearing dues to laborers under MGNREGA. The delay in fund allocation is affecting the programmes' progress, with substantial pending amounts reported in other schemes, including DAY-NRLM. The Bihar ministers have highlighted the need for immediate action to ensure these programmes benefit rural communities.
