The Delhi High Court has instructed the Centre and the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to respond to a plea by Apple Inc., which challenges the CCI's demand for the company's audited financial statements. Apple also contests a recent amendment permitting the CCI to impose penalties based on a company's worldwide turnover.

Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela were informed of a filed counter affidavit, yet to be recorded, from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs and the CCI. The court granted Apple time to file a rejoinder and set a hearing date for January 27.

Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, representing Apple, received a joint reply from the ministry and CCI, requesting more time to respond. Meanwhile, the Alliance of Digital India Foundation filed an impleadment application as the original informant in the case, with objections to be filed within four weeks.
