The national capital has witnessed a disturbing rise in violent crime, with at least 14 murders reported in the first half of this month. A significant concern is the involvement of minors, with 17 juveniles linked to these cases, according to police reports released on Tuesday.
The murders, which occurred in areas such as Rohini, East Delhi, and Shahdara, were sparked by motives ranging from financial disputes to impulsive outbursts over petty issues. The victims, diverse in socio-economic backgrounds, included an auto-rickshaw driver, a law student, and the wife of a temple priest.
Law enforcement officials pointed out that minors often participated actively, sometimes inflicting fatal injuries, as in one incident involving knives. The ease of accessing such weapons, combined with minimal legal repercussions for juveniles, underscores the urgent need for intervention. Police highlight a collaborative approach involving families, community policing, and juvenile justice authorities.
