An extensive eviction drive commenced in Assam's Nagaon district, aiming to clear 105.18 acres of government land from illegal encroachments, officials confirmed.
Launched across multiple areas, including Salnabori and Ahom Gaon, this initiative tackles unauthorized fisheries and embankments disrupting natural water flow, causing floods that damage rural infrastructure.
Nagaon District Commissioner Devashis Sarma stated the operation would continue until December, boosting efforts to prevent 'artificial floods' affecting approximately 15 revenue villages. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma affirmed the government's commitment to reclaim encroached lands, affecting over 50,000 individuals since May 2021.
