The Congress party has mandated its MPs to ensure their presence in the Lok Sabha for the next three days as key legislative pieces are scheduled for discussion and potential passage. These include the SHANTI Bill, which aims to privatize India's civil nuclear sector, and the VB-G RAM G Bill, which proposes changes to the rural employment scheme.
The SHANTI Bill, introduced by Minister Jitendra Singh, seeks to repeal existing nuclear energy governance laws and open the sector to private players. Other significant changes include revising the liability protocol related to nuclear incidents.
Meanwhile, the introduction of the VB-G RAM G Bill to guarantee 125 days of rural employment annually has sparked controversy, particularly over the proposal to replace the name MNREGA with Viksit Bharat Guarantee. Opposition forces, including Priyanka Gandhi, have urged for more detailed scrutiny of the proposed legislative changes.
