A police inspector in Odisha's Koraput district was apprehended on Thursday in a corruption scandal. The vigilance department nabbed Sukma Hansdah, the officer in charge of Dasmantpur police station, as she allegedly accepted a bribe of Rs 20,000.
Hansdah was reportedly seeking the bribe to produce a case diary in court to facilitate bail for an accused. The relative of the accused, who was in judicial custody, alerted vigilance authorities, leading to a successful operation and recovery of the bribed amount.
Post-arrest, authorities conducted searches at two different locations linked to the inspector to uncover any hidden assets. A formal case under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, has been registered against Hansdah.
