The Allahabad High Court has taken a decisive stance against the rampant issue of false First Information Reports (FIRs) in Uttar Pradesh. The court has mandated the police to initiate prosecution against those who file such misleading or malicious reports, warning that non-compliance will lead to legal action against the officers involved.
Justice Praveen Kumar Giri stated in an order released on Wednesday that failure to adhere to the court's directive would be deemed as contempt of court. Aggrieved parties have been encouraged to seek the court's intervention should the authorities neglect this fresh mandate.
In a bid to curb the misuse of law enforcement resources, specific instructions have been dispatched to the Director General of Police and other senior officers, ensuring that any exoneration of an accused would be followed by a filing of a written complaint against the perpetrator of the false report.
