A Delhi court has severely criticized the Sanjay Gandhi Animal Care Centre for its inability to follow a judicial directive to release ten dogs seized during an investigation. The court labeled the centre's explanation as 'totally unsatisfactory' and 'evasive.'
Additional Sessions Judge Surabhi Sharma Vats addressed a criminal revision petition by the animal shelter, which had challenged a previous court order mandating the dogs' release to their original owner. The order, issued on January 13, accused the shelter of blatant non-compliance, negligence, and misrepresentation, all under the guise of animal welfare.
The judge asserted that the shelter was failing in its custodial role and emphasized the need for proper records, identification protocols, and medical documentation. The court underscored that animals deserve dignity and protection, calling for a comprehensive report from the shelter on its procedures and the status of all animals in its care.
