In Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, officials have registered eight separate cases against individuals accused of disseminating AI-generated images and misleading information concerning the redevelopment of Manikarnika Ghat.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Gaurav Bansal announced on Saturday that these cases were lodged under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The allegations involve the sharing of fabricated images and misleading content on social media platform X, which contradict the realities of the beautification work in progress at the Ghat.

The shared images allegedly aimed to harm religious sentiments and provoke public anger, spreading misinformation about the Hindu faith. The situation escalated as the posts, first reported by a Tamil Nadu resident, Mano, attracted negative comments and further circulation. Authorities are pursuing legal action to maintain social harmony and counter anti-government narratives.
