Lokpal Seeks More Time in Mahua Moitra Corruption Case
The Lokpal has requested an extension from the Delhi High Court to consider granting sanction for a CBI chargesheet against MP Mahua Moitra, implicated in a cash-for-query scam. The court had earlier annulled the Lokpal's previous sanction, citing procedural errors, and instructed strict adherence to statutory provisions.

The Lokpal has appealed to the Delhi High Court for additional time to deliberate on sanctioning the CBI to proceed with charges against Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra in a purported cash-for-query scandal.
A bench led by Justices Vivek Chaudhary and Renu Bhatnagar scheduled the Lokpal's application to be reconsidered on January 23. The court highlighted that the application would potentially modify the existing order.
The scandal revolves around allegations accusing Moitra of exchanging legislative favors for cash and gifts from businessman Darshan Hiranandani. The CBI initiated an investigation in March 2024, leading to an FIR based on recommendations from the Lokpal.
