The Kannur City Cyber Police apprehended Jivan Ram, a 28-year-old from Ludhiana, Punjab, accused of extorting Rs 10.5 lakh from a female doctor in Thalassery, Kerala. The arrest followed claims that Ram threatened the doctor with a 'digital arrest' in a bid to extract money.

Police reports indicate that the fraud took place on November 30, 2025. Posing as officers from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Mumbai, the fraudsters contacted the victim via a WhatsApp video call, alleging a money laundering case against her. They successfully coerced her into transferring the money across different accounts, which Ram later withdrew using cheques.

Under Police Commissioner Nidhinraj P's guidance, the local police team tracked Ram to a village in Ludhiana. Despite the accused frequently changing locations and challenging weather conditions in Punjab, the police arrested him after a five-day surveillance operation.
