Life Sentence Delivered for High-Profile Russian General's Assassination

An Uzbek national was sentenced to life imprisonment by a military court in Moscow for his role in the assassination of top Russian General Igor Kirillov and his assistant. The attack, which took place in December 2024, was carried out via a bomb concealed in an electric scooter.
Ukraine's SBU intelligence service claimed responsibility for orchestrating the attack, which it described as retaliation against individuals deemed accountable for Russia's involvement in the Ukraine conflict. Russian officials, however, labeled these actions as state terrorism.
Accomplices received prison terms ranging from 18 to 25 years in maximum-security facilities. The Russian Investigative Committee detailed that the explosives had been smuggled from Poland and assembled by the convicted Uzbek man, who set off the bomb remotely.
