A woman clerk associated with the chief medical officer's office in Uttar Pradesh was apprehended Monday by the state's Anti-Corruption Organisation for accepting a Rs 5,000 bribe. The clerk, Babita Singh, was caught in the act while facilitating a hospital internship allotment.

The operation stemmed from a complaint filed by Prashant Kumar, a B Pharma student from Pachpora village. Kumar alleged that the clerk demanded money in exchange for facilitating his mandatory hospital internship. Reacting to the complaint, the Anti-Corruption Organisation initiated an undercover operation and arrested Singh during the transaction at the CMO office.

Following her arrest, Singh was questioned at the women's police station. An FIR has been lodged, and further investigations are in motion, according to Devendra Singh, in-charge of the Anti-Corruption Organisation, Aligarh station.
