In a strategic move to ensure smooth conduct of local elections, Rajasthan has decided to procure electronic voting machines (EVMs) from neighboring Madhya Pradesh. The decision comes as part of a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the state election commissions, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The agreement stipulates that Madhya Pradesh will provide 30,000 control units and 60,000 ballot units to Rajasthan. These EVMs will be rented for use in urban local body and Panchayati Raj elections, according to Rajasthan Election Commissioner Rajeshwar Singh.
Ensuring compliance with the Election Commission of India's guidelines, the MoU covers the supply, use, maintenance, and secure return of the EVMs. Additional provisions for security, transportation, and technical support will also be in place to facilitate this cross-state electoral collaboration.
