In a significant move, the Madhya Pradesh government has decided to waive registration fees for residential plots allotted to over 25,600 families affected by the Sardar Sarovar dam project. Approved by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, this decision aims to ease the financial burden on displaced families in the state.
The waiver covers both registration fees and stamp duty, which will be reimbursed by the Narmada Valley Development Authority. This initiative targets families residing in districts such as Alirajpur, Barwani, Khargone, and Dhar, which were impacted by dam-induced submergence.
The government's decision, made during a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, is estimated to impose a financial burden of Rs 600 crore on the state. This step reflects the administration's commitment to addressing the challenges faced by communities affected by the dam built in neighboring Gujarat.
