Calls Intensify for Casey Wasserman's Resignation Over Ties to Epstein, Maxwell
Local officials and activist groups are demanding the resignation of Casey Wasserman from the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics committee due to past ties with Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein. Despite a review clearing him of wrongdoing, the pressure mounts following revelations from U.S. Justice Department files.
Local officials and activists amplified their demands on Tuesday for Casey Wasserman to resign as head of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics organizing committee, citing his previous connections with convicted sex traffickers Ghislaine Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein.
In a significant public appeal, West Hollywood city council member Chelsea Byers emphasized the community's history of supporting survivors and holding power abusers accountable, urging Wasserman to step down as LA28's chairperson. Despite these calls, the LA28 board recently backed Wasserman, who has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
Depth of the scrutiny intensified last week when documents released by the U.S. Justice Department disclosed email exchanges from 2003 between Wasserman and Maxwell. While Wasserman has apologized for his association with Maxwell, insisting on the innocence of these interactions, activist coalitions maintain that his removal is necessary to uphold the moral integrity of the Olympics.
