Major Liquor Seizure: Smuggling Ring Busted in Maharashtra

The operation, involving whisky and beer hidden under velvet wallpaper, led to the detention of the truck driver and the registration of a case under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.

The Excise Department has executed a significant bust, intercepting Indian-Made Foreign Liquor valued at over Rs 57 lakh. The smuggling operation targeted Maharashtra from the Union Territory of Daman, as revealed by senior officials on Sunday.
Superintendent Ganesh Bargaje of State Excise (Palghar) disclosed that the illicit alcohol, comprising whisky and beer from renowned brands, was cleverly stowed beneath velvet wallpaper in a truck. This strategic seizure occurred Friday morning when a diligent team flagged down the vehicle in Talasari.
According to Bargaje, the stock, intended solely for Daman and Dadra and Nagar Haveli, was en route to Maharashtra. The driver is now detained, and charges have been filed at the Talasari police station under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.
