The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has issued a fresh summons to actor Vijay, who is also the chief of TVK, for further questioning in relation to the Karur stampede case. This comes after initial interrogations conducted at the agency's headquarters earlier this year, suggesting that more clarity is required.
The CBI, which assumed control of the investigation from a Special Investigation Team (SIT) pursuant to a Supreme Court order, is gathering additional evidence surrounding the tragic incident. The stampede on September 27, 2025, resulted in the deaths of 41 individuals and left over 60 injured during one of Vijay's rallies in Karur, Tamil Nadu.
The Supreme Court underscored the importance of this case, emphasizing its broad implications on citizens' lives and basic rights. The court also appointed a supervisory committee, led by former Supreme Court judge Ajay Rastogi, to oversee the CBI's inquiry. A judicial bench has insisted that restoring public faith in the justice system hinges on ensuring the investigation remains impartial and independent.
