The Union Home Ministry played a crucial role in rescuing 21 Tangkhul Naga civilians detained by armed men in Ukhrul district, Manipur. The hostages were freed after negotiations involving central forces, particularly the army, intervened. The situation escalated when armed Kuki men stopped vehicles carrying Tangkhul Nagas following the abduction of two Kuki men.
Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam narrated the sequence of events, highlighting that central forces and the army were initially blocked by local women but later managed to cordon off the area. Amidst reports of firing, one Kuki man sustained injuries. The state government promptly informed the Governor, leading to the Ministry of Home Affairs' intervention.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh and others emphasized the importance of peace and negotiation to resolve disputes. Singh urged citizens to identify as Manipuri first, advocating for unity beyond community identities. The successful rescue underscores the significance of dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders in maintaining harmony.
