TMC Raises Concerns Over West Bengal Voter Data Discrepancies

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) delegation met West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer to discuss discrepancies in voter data and delays in the supplementary electoral roll publication. With nearly 60 lakh voters' names under adjudication, TMC seeks transparency and a timeline, emphasizing coordination failures with the High Court and Supreme Court directives.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) delegation, featuring MPs Mahua Moitra and Partha Bhowmick, along with state minister Chandrima Bhattacharya, addressed voter data discrepancies in a meeting with West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Kumar Agarwal.

On March 15, conflicting voter figures emerged when the Election Commission announced poll dates, prompting Moitra to question the transparency of the electoral process. The TMC delegation sought clarification regarding the discrepancy between over 7,04,59,000 voters, as reported in February, versus the 6,44,52,609 voters announced in March.

Amid these concerns, TMC highlighted the need for a timeline for the supplementary electoral roll, crucial for nearly 60 lakh voters currently listed as 'under adjudication.' The delegation also pointed out inadequacies in implementing Supreme Court directions and coordination with the High Court.
