Delhi HC Ensures Peaceful Eid Amidst Communal Tensions

The Delhi High Court issued a directive on Thursday to city police and administration, urging them to foster a peaceful and dignified atmosphere for the observance of Eid in Uttam Nagar, following a fatal clash during Holi. The incident involved a 26-year-old man and heightened communal tensions in the area.

A bench comprising Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia stressed the necessity for police arrangements to assure residents of their safety and prevent any potential disturbances. The court clarified the importance of securing a conducive environment for peaceful celebrations, extending these measures until the upcoming Ram Navami festival.

Addressing a PIL from the Association for Protection of Civil Rights, the court affirmed the significance of a disruption-free observance of Eid. The police assured enhanced personnel deployment, including Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), to maintain security and order. The initial Holi incident resulted in multiple arrests, highlighting longstanding family disputes in southwest Delhi's Uttam Nagar.
